Transport further disrupted as No. 9 signal goes up

Hongkongers struggling to get home on Sunday found train, tram and ferry services cancelled and services disrupted on the MTR network.

Most transport services were cancelled in the early afternoon when Observatory first issued the No.8 Gale or Storm Signal, with franchised bus routes and ferries put on hold.

The Airport Authority also announced that it was expecting to cancel 90 flights, mostly to the mainland and Japan, with a further 130 facing delays.

The MTR Corporation maintained a limited service on most lines, which was further reduced after 7pm when services on above-ground parts of the network were suspended following the issuance of the Increasing Gale or Storm Signal No. 9.

Most lines were operating at 15 minute intervals from 7pm with light rail and MTR Bus services completely suspended. The Airport Express and Disneyland Resort lines were also suspended.

On the roads, most traffic was moving although drivers reported difficult conditions.

Due to high winds, authorities ordered the closure of the Cross Bay Bridge at Tseung Kwan O and Shenzhen Bay Bridge. Special arrangements took effect at Stonecutters Bridge, including a 50 km/h speed limit.
