People can now report lost property at a self-service kiosk in Admiralty MTR Station. It’s the first such kiosk to be installed anywhere other than police station report rooms or reporting centres.
“After you make a report through our self-service kiosk, the informant needs to give consent before we pass the data to the MTR’s system… And also, the data is encrypted before the transmission, so it is a very secure system,” said superintendent Tony Lam.
“Through the new arrangement, at the same time [the informant] can make a report to two different systems. No matter if the lost property is eventually found on the ground or within the railway system, the [chance] of recovering the items [is higher].”
The force said it is considering installing the self-service kiosks at more locations, including Tai Wai and East Tsim Sha Tsui MTR stations.
Other than lost property, people can also use the kiosks to report non-emergency cases such as deception offences and traffic complaints.
