Two men in court for allegedly making bombs

Two men appeared in court on Tuesday charged with making and possessing bombs.

Police said the pair, aged 33 and 34, were arrested in Wong Chuk Hang on Sunday after officers found some home-made burning tools and chemicals in a hole at a slope there.

Officers said they believe the site was used to conduct bomb tests.

Around 30 kilogrammes of chemicals and raw materials were also found, police said.

Chief inspector Wong Chi-yu said their investigation had identified no particular targets to be attacked.

“According to police investigation, there is a chance that what was seized can be used to produce the so-called TATP or dynamites of the ammonium nitrate type. It is possible the raw materials can be turned into these two types of dynamites,” the inspector told a press briefing.

Eastern Court adjourned the men’s case until February 20 at the request of the prosecution, and the defendants were remanded in custody.
