World’s first Frozen-themed zone wows Disney fans

Hong Kong Disneyland officially opened up the gates to the world’s first “Frozen” themed land on Monday.

Michael Moriarty, the theme park’s managing director, said the new cinematic land of Arendelle – home of Queens Elsa and Anna – would be a huge asset in reviving the SAR’s tourism sector.

“It’s hard to believe it was just March that we were all wearing masks, but here we are enjoying an accelerated recovery here in Hong Kong Disneyland. When you look again at the power of this franchise, and the brain here at the World of Frozen, it’s the crown jewel of Hong Kong Disneyland right now, and we’re really excited about what it’s going to be able to do for us,” he said.

“We absolutely think that World of Frozen is going to make a big difference for us here.”

Financial Secretary Paul Chan, who officiated the opening ceremony, said he was thrilled to witness the magic happen.

“The fantasy is now a reality, almost beyond our imagination back in 2016. But seeing is believing, and I am thrilled to be here to see how the Kingdom of Arendelle from the Frozen movie franchise has come to real life,” he said.

“And to make it even more unique, the World of Frozen integrates the picturesque natural landscape of our Lantau Island as the backdrop, and deploys the latest technology to deliver a truly innovative guest experience.”

Fans couldn’t hold back their excitement as they stepped into the land of Arendelle.

“It was so amazing coming into the park at such an amazing time and seeing everybody, it was just so amazing to see. I’m so excited to try out the rides,” a girl named Poppy told RTHK.

A man, surnamed Hall-Smith, said he and his children were delighted about the “Frozen” experience.

“It’s been an amazing day and the attention to detail is just exceptional. It’s a beautiful land. We are absolutely thrilled to be the first guests in the park today,” he said.
