In a statement, Chief Executive John Lee thanked the Legislative Council for passing the motion, adding that the government will continue to study different views to meet public expectations.
“My team and I will continue to strengthen exchanges and co-ordination with the Legco during the implementation of policy initiatives through various means, with a view to bringing the executive-legislative relationship to the next level and creating greater value and power of ‘patriots administering Hong Kong’,” he said in the statement.
Election Committee lawmaker Kenneth Leung said officials have to do more to improve living conditions for families with newborns.
“I believe the government can be more proactive when it comes to improving the living space of families with newborns, such as increasing their chances of being chosen for subsidised housing, or providing other property incentives.”
Welfare sector lawmaker Tik Chi-yuen, meanwhile, expressed concern about the amount of schoolwork children are given and a link to youth mental health.
“Many countries around the world, including Finland, Germany and our country, regulate students’ homework workload. We hope that the government can set things right because schools blindly pursue performance, and parents misunderstand the problem,” he said.
Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong, who heads a task force to tackle subdivided flats, said officials will study how to sort out issues related to temporary homes and take care of affected families.
