Celebrity Aaron Kwok Fu-shing made headlines in the Macau Grand Prix – but they were not the headlines he wanted – after he collided with another Hong Kong driver and crashed out of the Touring Car Championship.
Kwok, representing Shell Teamwork Lynk & Co Racing, and Norris Racing’s Chan Chun-leung both had to retire.
This was after Kwok completed the first round in 17th place and set a personal best lap time on Saturday.
In the second round yesterday, Kwok started the race strong by climbing to 19th from 21st in the first five laps. But Chan caught up with Kwok on the fifth lap and set himself up to overtake Kwok at turn three – the dangerous Lisboa Bend.
Chan forced Kwok into a poor line, and Kwok seemed to have lost grip in his rear tires and hit Chan’s Honda Civic FK2. Both cars slammed into the barrier and had to retire.
