The party told officials at an antechamber meeting at the legislature on Wednesday that the proposal would cut costs for employers and boost the development of the construction, aviation and logistics sectors in Hong Kong.
“For example, when we join hands to train specialised technical workers and have them complete training on the mainland before coming to Hong Kong, this would lower the costs for everyone and have more of a targeted approach,” DAB vice chairman Brave Chan told reporters.
“We can then immediately use professional talent that is lacking in the SAR, allowing sustained talent to help with Hong Kong’s [development as] aviation and logistics centres.”
The DAB believes the public and private sectors can work together in establishing these training bases.
Chan said the party plans to make relevant proposals at the annual “two sessions” meetings in Beijing next year.
In response, labour minister Chris Sun said the government will ensure that imported staff are well-equipped when they come to work in Hong Kong.
He noted that to his knowledge, there are many training organisations across the border grooming talent not just for the SAR, but also for other mainland cities and overseas.
