Police arrest two more linked to beauty treatments

Police have made two more arrests after 15 women, who had received injections at beauty clinics, developed symptoms associated with bacterial infections.

The police on Friday arrested a 27-year-old woman in Cheung Sha Wan on suspicion of practising medicine without a licence, and a 26-year-old woman in Central on suspicion of assisting an unlicensed person practising medicine.

Officers had previously arrested two women on suspicion of illegally possessing unregistered pharmaceutical products for sale or distribution and illegally possessing Part 1 poison.

The police said the case was still under investigation, and they would not rule out more arrests.

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) announced on Thursday that they were investigating a suspected Mycobacterium abscessus infection cluster case.

The affected women had developed rashes, or abscesses, after receiving injections claimed to have slimming effects. All of the women are in a stable condition.

The CHP says anyone who has received injections at Gals Glam Beauty, Gals Glam, or Ching’s Beauty should seek medical attention and contact the centre.
