Hong Kong will lose one of its biggest social and culinary landmarks when SEVVA closes in May 2024 after its lease expires. The rooftop restaurant in Central is well known for its meticulously curated menu, stunning interiors, and wraparound terrace that provides sweeping views of Victoria Harbour from the 25th floor of Landmark Prince’s.
Since its opening in 2008, SEVVA has established itself as a favourite among the who’s who in the world of film and fashion, and its guest list has included the likes of international bigwigs like David and Victoria Beckham and Pharrell Williams, Chinese actress Fan Bingbing, Korean stars Rain and Lee Byung-hun, as well as designers Vera Wang and Stefano Gabbana.
“The social unrest in 2019, followed by the unprecedented global pandemic, posed significant challenges to our operations,” said SEVVA founder Bonnae Gokson in a statement, adding, “SEVVA’s contribution to raising the overall dining standards in Hong Kong over the past 16 years is something we are proud of, and we will reflect on our past successes while remaining open to innovative ideas as we plan for the future.”
The menu at SEVVA is inspired by the cultural diversity of Hong Kong, blending authentic flavours created in everyday Chinese regional kitchens with influences from the city’s colonial past. The interiors also play a major part in the dining experience in the 2,000 square foot establishment, which underwent extensive renovations as recently as 2019.
There is no word yet on whether SEVVA will reopen in a new location in the city or if the team behind the legendary restaurant will open a new establishment — a not altogether unlikely scenario as Gokson also operates dessert spots C’est La B and B’s Cakery.
SEVVA will bid adieu to Hong Kong and its loyal clientele with a “starry soirée” in 2024 that will be a celebration of its storied 16-year past.
