Govt aims to turn HK into a global green hub: FS

Financial Secretary Paul Chan on Sunday vowed to turn Hong Kong into an international green financial hub and a centre for sustainable technology.

Delivering his speech at an economic forum during the China International Import Expo in Shanghai, Chan hailed the success of the city’s green bond programme which raised funds for environmentally friendly projects.

“The green and sustainable bonds issued last year raised more than US$80 billion – one-third of Asia’s total in issuance size. Moving ahead, our aim is to speed up the development of an ecosystem for green technology,” he said.

“Our goal is to transform Hong Kong into the leading fundraising platform for green capital and green programmes.”
