The department’s remark came after environmental group The Green Earth uploaded a video on Thursday showing pyrotechnics being used during a wedding photoshoot at Tai Mo Shan.
It accused the people in question of being selfish and reckless for disregarding the risk of starting a wildfire.
“Not only is setting off fireworks without permission illegal in Hong Kong, these people also disregarded the dry conditions and the fact that there were grass all over the place, which could easily catch fire,” The Green Earth wrote.
According to the Country Parks Ordinance, those who light or use fire in areas other than designated barbeque areas or camp sites are liable to a HK$5,000 fine and a one-year jail term.
