For patients with Parkinson’s disease, dance can help them regain control of their body – and with that, their confidence.
This is why the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts has a Jockey Club Dance Well Project, a three-year creative dance program which aims to empower individuals with the disease through artistic and creative expression.
On November 16, the academy will be holding its annual sharing session at its main campus in Wan Chai to track the progress of the project as well as provide a platform for mutual exchange and learning and gaining further insights into the use of the arts to enhance the lives of individuals with Parkinson’s disease.
There will be collaboration and experience sharing, featuring discussions between professionals in the arts, social welfare and medical fields.
As the project is now in its second year, the event will also showcase the progress achieved by its participants, who have experienced psychological and physical empowerment, and formed a resilient and supportive community.
Entry is free. Attendees can take part in discussions that bridge the gap between arts, social welfare and health care, ultimately shaping a brighter future where dance serves to change the lives of those with Parkinson’s disease.
”We believe in the transformative power of dance, and the annual sharing allows us to celebrate the progress and achievements of our participants,” said Anna Chan, project director of the Jockey Club Dance Well Project and the academy’s dean of dance.
”We invite everyone to join us for this inspiring event as we explore ways to improve the lives of individuals with Parkinson’s through artistic expression and community engagement.”
