Speaking to reporters after attending a radio programme, Mak said around 460 care team members – who provide community support such as visiting the needy – have stopped work ahead of next month’s polls.
“Their services will be suspended for a period of time during this election, so that the election can be carried out in a fair and proper manner,” Mak said.
“During this period, we still have more than 4,000 care team members providing services in our districts. So, our care team services will not be affected by the temporary suspension of certain members.”
The home affairs chief also told the radio programme that the city’s political spectrum has not been narrowed by the revamped electoral system, saying only anti-China and destabilising forces have been removed.
She stressed district councilors will have to continue to convey the views of people from different political backgrounds after the revamped polls.
