The Peninsula Hong Kong, one of the city’s most iconic hotels, was voted the sixth-best hotel in the world in the 36th Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards. The Tsim Sha Tsui-based hotel was also the only Asian establishment in the Top 10, making it the best hotel in the region.
Only two other hotels in Asia made it to the rankings, which comprised a total of 50 hotels: Signiel Seoul (No. 36) and Hotel Éclat Beijing (No. 37). The best hotel in the world, according to the list, is Colony Palms Hotel in the USA.

The Peninsula Hong Kong — the oldest hotel in the city — secured the No. 6 position on the list for its “blend of old-world Hong Kong, contemporary comforts, and world-class service.” The hotel has made it to other awards lists this year, and was most notably included in the prestigious La Liste rankings for the best hotels for 2023, and was named Asia’s Leading Heritage Hotel at this year’s World Travel Awards.
The results of the Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards were tabulated from votes from more than 500,000 respondents that were submitted between April 1 and June 30, 2023. Candidate hotels are judged on the following criteria: rooms, service, food, design, location, and activities/facilities, as well as new parameters added this year such as cleanliness, community, concierge, experience, safety, accessibility, and remote work.
Readers are then asked to rate the hotels based on a standard five-point scale — excellent, very good, good, fair, and poor — which is then converted to a percentage. The Peninsula Hong Kong scored 99.62 based on this process.
