Brazil star Neymar has a torn ligament and meniscus in his left knee and will have to undergo surgery.
The 31-year-old twisted his knee in a collision with Nicolas de la Cruz and was stretchered off in tears during his side’s 2-0 loss to Uruguay in a 2026 World Cup qualifying match in Montevideo.
Neymar will undergo surgery at a “yet-to-be-determined date,” the Brazilian football confederation said.
Neymar said he was frustrated to be sidelined with yet another injury so soon. Earlier this year, he underwent right ankle surgery.
”It’s a very sad time, the worst,” he said. “It’s not easy to go through injury and surgery, imagine going through it all again after four months of recovery.”
