Police to dissolve Railway District: sources

RTHK has learned that the police force plans to dissolve its Railway District, which is responsible for maintaining law and order in the railway system.

It is understood that the move will be implemented next year and is driven primarily by a manpower shortage in the force.

Sources said the majority of officers serving in the Railway District will be dispatched to various districts to assist in frontline patrols and other tasks, and duties of the railway police will be taken over by patrol teams.

In response, the police said they would not comment on news relating to the Railway District, but that they have an effective resource allocation strategy in place.

Officers also said any changes involving resource allocation will be carefully considered and thoroughly studied.
