OASES has brought in 30 strategic enterprises: CE

Chief Executive John Lee on Wednesday said about 30 companies have set up offices in Hong Kong through the Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises (OASES) and it’s expected they will provide 10,000 jobs in the city in the coming few years.

OASES works to attract high-potential and representative strategic enterprises to Hong Kong from industries including fintech, artificial intelligence and data science.

Speaking at a launching ceremony, Lee said the companies will help spur Hong Kong’s rise as an innovation and technology centre.

“They represent a lot of money, big dollar signs… Hong Kong welcomes you all with open arms,” he said.

“I’m pleased to note that over the next few years, your companies will invest over HK$30 billion here in Hong Kong, with plans to create some 10,000 jobs here.”

Financial Secretary Paul Chan said 80 percent of the firms are from the mainland and they will enrich the industrial structure of the SAR.

“As to the diversification of the industrial structure, the focus is mainly on the innovation and technology sector,” he said.

“The specific scopes include four areas; artificial intelligence and big data analytics, health and life science, fintech and new materials and new energy.”
