No HKers in Thailand have called for help so far: govt

The Immigration Department said on Tuesday night that it has not received any calls for help so far, after at least two people were killed and several more were wounded in a shooting at a popular luxury shopping mall in the centre of Bangkok.

Authorities said they are closely following developments in the Thai capital, adding that anybody who needs help should call or whatsapp the department’s hotline on (852)1868.

The executive director of the Travel Industry Council, Fanny Yeung, noted that there are currently two to three Hong Kong tour groups in Bangkok, and they are all safe.

A reporter working for the Bangkok Post told RTHK that she was shocked about what happened, but believes it was an isolated incident.

“I think it’s quite shocking because it’s not common [that] Thailand has these incidents, especially in Bangkok. I’ve lived in Bangkok for my whole life, I have never experienced something like this… it’s very rare,” Molpasorn Shoowong said.

“I go to the mall every month or regularly, for eating, going to the book store, watching movies and whatever.”
