Momentum will be on the side of Talor Gooch when the American golfer heads to the Hong Kong Open at Fanling next month.
Gooch lost to Brooks Koepka in a playoff at the LIV Golf-Jeddah but was crowned individual champion of the lucrative Saudi-backed circuit in its first full season.
After becoming the first player to win three times on tour in one season, Gooch went on to top the standings, ahead of former British Open champ Cameron Smith, who also tees off at the Hong Kong Golf Club on November 9-12.
”I am excited to make my debut appearance at the Hong Kong Open,” Gooch said. “I have heard a lot about the city and the Hong Kong Golf Club from other players, and I look forward to playing in Fanling.”
Alexander Yang Hiu-wai, the first Hong Kong golfer to play in a men’s major, will also tee off at the event after topping the 36-hole qualifying tournament last weekend with a three-under-par 137 total.
He finished one shot ahead of New Zealander Shane Kuiti, a teaching pro at the Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau public golf course, who also qualified for the Open.
Yang, who competed at the last US Open, finished tied for 13th on his Hong Kong Open debut in 2020 as a 17-year-old.
Tickets are available at www.ticketflap.com/hongkongopen2023. Admission is free for the first two rounds, while tickets are priced at HK$200 for Saturday and Sunday, with a weekend pass costing HK$300.
