‘Govt will show no leniency against bad contractors’

Chief Secretary Eric Chan said on Thursday that the administration will show no leniency against construction contractors that engage in misconduct and disregard the safety of their workers.

He made the comment after the Development Bureau announced that it was deregistering Aggressive Construction Engineering, which had been involved in a fatal industrial accident last December.

Speaking at a forum on occupational safety, Chan said the authorities are continuing their investigation and prosecution work.

“I must stress once again, one industrial accident is one too many. Because it’s not just the loss of life, the family is also permanently scarred,” Chan said.

“The SAR government will show no leniency for any contactor that violates the law and regulations. We’ll definitely follow up seriously.”
