Woman dies after inhaling smoke from flat fire

Police said on Friday that a 67-year-old woman died at her home in Tseung Kwan O after inhaling smoke from a fire caused by an electrical fault.

Officers received a report of smoke coming from a flat at Tak Hong House in Hau Tak Estate at around 5am.

The blaze was put out in about half an hour.

Initial investigations suggested that the fire was caused by a short circuit in an electric kettle.

The woman was found unconscious in the bathroom and was immediately rushed to Tseung Kwan O Hospital, where she later died.
