Profit exhibition at Palace Museum

A lot of stuff can be more valuable away from home, including souvenirs at the Hong Kong Palace Museum.

As an example, a mainlander saw her money doubled from what she paid for souvenirs of an exhibition.

The tourist recounted on Xiaohongshu how she visited the exhibition Gazing at Sanxingdui: New Archaeological Discoveries in Sichuan at the Palace Museum, where relics were loaned from two museums.

Among four souvenirs she bought was a bookmark for HK$70, and after removing the price tag in Hong Kong dollars upon her return home she discovered it costs 26 yuan in the mainland.

And an amulet was twice as high, being sold for HK$50 in Hong Kong but only 25 yuan in the mainland.

”I wanted to cry when I returned home and saw the price in renminbi,” she said.

In response, the Palace Museum said the gift shop is run by a tenant, which sets prices based on various factors.
