MTR’s Chief of Operating and Metro Segment, Cheris Lee, said the rail operator will proactively assist the government if there is a need to extend the operating hours of cross-border train services during the upcoming Lunar New Year holidays.
This comes after calls for the government to extend the hours of cross-border checkpoints during the holidays, following travel chaos after the New Year’s Eve fireworks.
Many visitors struggled to return to the mainland with overstretched networks and long queues for public transport.
MTR also said it would increase train frequency during non-peak hours on five of its lines from next Monday.
These are the Tseung Kwan O Line, Tuen Ma Line, South Island Line, Tung Chung Line and the Disneyland Resort Line.
