Same-store sales for the last quarter rose 12 percent annually for local apparel retailer Bauhaus International (0483), driven mainly by growth in Macau.
The October-December period saw sales in Hong Kong edge up by 1 percent yearly while soaring 78 percent in Macau from one year ago.
However, the same-store sales growth in three months through December slowed down in Hong Kong, dragging down the nine-month rise to 6 percent. Thanks to the faster recovery in Macau the group reported a 15 percent climb in same-store sales from April to December. When compared with the three months ending in September the slowdown was more significant.
Overall same-store sales from July to September jumped by 31 percent from a year ago, backed by a 21 percent rise in Hong Kong and an 88 percent surge in Macau.
Meanwhile, Bauhaus decreased its stores by four to 35 in the past nine months. It now has 28 outlets in Hong Kong and seven in Macau.
In the interim results ending in September 2023, Bauhaus’s net profit dived 40.4 percent yearly to HK$3.5 million and it did not declare a first-half dividend.
