Hong Kong gears up for New Year fireworks

Special transport arrangements are being put in place for the New Year fireworks display over Victoria Harbour, which the organiser says will be the longest and biggest ever.

Bus companies will enhance or extend the service hours of 22 bus routes and trams will run until 1am on New Year’s Day.

All the main MTR lines and seven light rail routes will run overnight, while MTR buses 506, K51 and K54, which serve the Tuen Mun area, will also extend their service hours.

In Kowloon, some roads in the West Kowloon Cultural District and around Canton Road in Tsim Sha Tsui are to be closed.

On Hong Kong Island, Bauhinia Square and many of the roads near the Harbourfront will also be sealed off, as will be some roads near the Peak.

The Tourism Board, which is organising the 12-minute display, said it would be of “unprecedented size and duration”.
