Duo Solo Exhibitions: “It’s the smiles that keep us going” And “No Dreams Can Last Longer Than A Night”

Gallery EXIT presents duo solo exhibitions by Hong Kong-born artists Oscar Chan Yik Long (‘It’s the smiles that keep us going’) and Ngai Wing Lam (‘No Dreams Can Last Longer Than A Night’). Explore Chan’s painted recreations of films produced in Hong Kong and the region, where at least one character is smiling. Influenced by Western landscape paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries, Ngai applies oil directly onto wooden panels and displays works in storyboards divided by specially designed wooden frames.

Shame of Intimacy

The Chinese artist’s first solo exhibition with Perrotin, “Shame of Intimacy” uses two decisive and opposing terms: ‘shame’ and ‘intimacy’. Despite the distance between the words, Xie Qi joins them in her paintings, depicted fragmented and denatured in colour bodies, depersonalised and rendered as just flesh.

Christie’s Hong Kong Autumn Auctions 2023: The Tianminlou Collection and Important Chinese Ceramics

Following Christie’s Hong Kong’s dedicated sale of The Tianminlou Collection, one of the most esteemed Chinese porcelain collections ever assembled, the Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art department has announced a further live auction at the end of this month. The sale will showcase a broad spectrum of carefully selected artworks for their rarity, quality, beauty and, most importantly, exceptional provenance; works including ceramics, Imperial porcelain, Buddhist sculptures and Chinese classical huanghuali furniture.

Julie Curtiss at White Cube Hong Kong

Julie Curtiss’ first exhibition in Hong Kong features new paintings, sculptures and works on paper, as well as the artist’s first short film. Employing crisp outlines and saturated colour, the art pieces are comparable to 18th and 19th-century French painting, Japanese woodblock prints and the ‘pop’ imagery of manga and illustration — with playful details and visual puns.

Maria Hassabi: I’ll Be Your Mirror

Cyprus-born artist and choreographer Maria Hassabi has long pioneered live installations that explore the sculptural body. “I’ll Be Your Mirror” is her first solo exhibition in Asia, comprising elements of performance, sound, photography and painting. All works are newly commissioned for Tai Kwun’s architectural environment. Hassabi will be around for the first half of the exhibition!

The Grand Gathering of the Century: Zodiac Heads from the Yuanmingyuan and Important Treasures

In collaboration with Singapore’s Asian Civilisations Museum, Indra and Harry Banga Gallery is presenting the second part of its “The Grand Gathering of the Century: Zodiac Heads from the Yuanmingyuan and Important Treasures” exhibition, with a complete set of 12 faithfully replicated zodiac head sculptures from the Yuanmingyuan — the Old Summer Palace.

Mark your calendar — Japan’s teamLab Future Park is making its way to Hong Kong this July! On view until next January, the art collective is taking over 10,000 sq. ft. of Megabox with six multi-sensory, immersive play installations, a dreamlike realm of interactive fun at the crossroads of technology and art. Gangcai Encounter – The Art of Hong Kong Porcelain Painting

Dating back to the Qing dynasty, guangcai is a type of traditional hand-painted porcelain that features delicate overglaze decorations. In this “Gangcai Encounter” presentation, Artspace K has invited eight Hong Kong guangcai artists to showcase this diverse cultural exchange between East and West — just like our home city.

“mould the wing to match the photograph”: The Mrinalini Mukherjee Archive

Asia Art Archive presents “mould the wing to match the photograph,” a new exhibition on one of the most prominent sculptors in India, Mrinalini Mukherjee (1949–2015); bringing together her monumental hemp fibre sculpture Pari (1986) and materials from her personal archive. Showcased for the first time in Hong Kong, the exhibition is open to the public along with a line-up of public programmes including curator-led tours, workshops and performances.

Madame Song: Pioneering Art and Fashion in China

M+ presents the first-ever museum exhibition dedicated to the legendary Song Huai-Kuei, widely known during her lifetime as Madame Song, who shaped the landscape of art, fashion, and popular culture in China from the 1980s to the 2000s. View over 320 exhibited items including rare archival materials, garments from prominent fashion designers, movie costumes and footage, artworks, and large-scale tapestry installations.
