Choi Hung Estate, a 60-year-old Hong Kong public housing estate whose rainbow-coloured façade is famous among thousands of Instagrammers, is set to be redeveloped.
The 11 blocks totalling around 7,400 flats will be redeveloped in phases, sources told local media. Details would be made public after the newly-restricted District Council election is held in December, according to Ming Pao.
The Instagram hotspot, sitting beneath the iconic Lion Rock, is one of the largest public housing estates in the city. Its redevelopment would add to the 10 such projects currently underway, Ming Pao reported on Monday citing sources.

Anthony Chiu, executive director of the Federation of Public Housing Estates, told a Commercial Radio programme on Monday that residents they spoke to wanted a swifter redevelopment plan, given the estate’s age and deteriorating conditions.
