Writing on his weekly blog, Chan mentioned he had departed for the United States on Saturday night to attend the Apec Economic Leaders’ Meeting, which will be held in San Francisco from November 15 to 17.
The finance minister said he will focus on three aspects during the trip.
“First, we hope to introduce new opportunities in areas such as finance and innovation and technology development in Hong Kong to political and business leaders from various economies. We also aim to gain a better understanding of the development situation, strategies, and global economic changes and prospects of different economies.
“Secondly, through bilateral meetings with various economies, I aim to expand our network of friends and strengthen mutual understanding of each other’s development directions and priorities, laying a better foundation for future cooperation.”
Chan also said he plans to visit businesses there and encourage them to explore opportunities and seek partners in Hong Kong.
The finance secretary stressed that it is important for major economies to engage in talks amid an uncertain economic and political state.
“It is crucial for major economies to engage in more dialogue and exchanges, enhance mutual understanding, manage differences, promote cooperation, and seek collaborative solutions to address challenges, which are essential for stability and economic development,” he said.
