Chief Executive John Lee on Tuesday said various activities and promotions on December 9 are to boost awareness of the district council polls the following day and “create a happy atmosphere”.
There’ll be fun fairs at the Wan Chai and Kwun Tong harbourfronts, sports activities at several venues, and an outdoor concert in the evening.
Admission to the science, space and art museums as well as the wetland park will be free, while KMB will put on a vintage bus exhibition and the Central Library will exhibit photos of the disciplinary forces.
Lee said he hopes all this will result in a higher voter turnout.
“Before the voting day, we want to enhance a sense of engagement, so that on December 10 everyone comes out to vote. We want to raise awareness, we also want to cheer everyone up. This is also the point of improving district governance,” he said.
“We hope more people will join these large-scale events in Hong Kong… and we will have more local consumption. This is what we have been trying to promote, to have people stay in Hong Kong to spend money and cast their vote.”
