Lucky old dog moves on at 31

Bobi, who this year was hailed as the oldest dog in the world by Guinness World Records, has died at age of 31.

”He made a lot of people happy, especially his family,” owner Leonel Costa said in the village of Conqueiros in central Portugal.

A purebreed Rafeiro, a livestock guard dog whose normal life expectancy is between 12 and 14, Bobi was not supposed to make it beyond puppyhood.

He was born on May 11, 1992 along with three others in a wood storage shed owned by the Costa family. But because the family had so many animals the man of the house decided they could not keep the puppies and took them from the shed next day while mother dog Gira was out, says Leonel Costa, who was eight at the time.

But they didn’t realize they’d left one puppy behind, and that puppy became Bobi. So “he died at the age of 31 years and 165 days,” Guinness World Records reported.
