Third-party retailers, including JD.com and Alibaba’s Tmall are cutting the prices of the iPhones 15 series in China as Apple’s flagship products fell short of their predecessors.
JD is offering discounts of up to 801 yuan (HK$856) for selected models and colors of the latest iPhones, while Tmall is offering as much as 700 yuan in discounts.
For instance, iPhone 15 256GB is now trimmed to 6,198 yuan from the original 6,999 yuan. That is about HK$1,000 or more than 13 percent cheaper than the launch price.
The latest iPhone series saw a 6 percent decline in sales in its launch month compared with last year, according to data from market researcher GfK.
Meanwhile, the mobile industry tracker IDC estimates Apple’s shipments were down 4 percent in the third quarter, with both identifying Huawei Technologies’s return.
Huawei’s Mate 60 series recorded sales of close to 1.5 million in its launch month, more than doubling from a year ago, GfK said, despite facing supply constraints.
