High-speed rail to add five destinations

High-speed rail will add five destinations – Jiangmen, Kaipingnan, Yangjiang, Maoming, and Zhanjiangxi – from next Wednesday.

The new service will provide one pair of southbound and northbound trains every day.

Since opening in September 2018, the high-speed rail has served a record 2.5 million passengers, proof that the rail has become an important link between Hong Kong and the mainland.

The five additional destinations followed the launch of the Guangzhoudong and Chengdudong new lines, improvements in train services, and the introduction of “Flexi-trip” arrangements earlier this year.

Also from next Wednesday, the number of daily train services from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station to Guangzhoudong will increase to 20, while the departure time of the last southbound train from Guangzhou East will be extended from the current 6.45pm to 8.18pm.

In addition, train frequencies between Shenzhen and Hong Kong will increase from 178 to 184.

Following the service enhancements, daily train services will increase from 182 to 188.

Fares for nine long-haul destinations, including Chengdudong, Leshan, Yibinxi, Guiyangdong, Chongqingxi, Zunyi, Kunmingnan, Guiyangbei and Guilinxi, will be adjusted. The traveling duration of these lines will also be shortened by 1 to 1.5 hours.

Passengers can buy tickets for the new destinations and train services starting today.
