Looking back at day five, badminton player Chu Man-kai won a gold medal in the men’s SH6 singles. He beat compatriot and doubles partner Wong Chun-yim to make it to the final, where he came up against India’s Krishna Nagar.
Chu cruised to a 21-10 first game victory, before conceding the second 8-21. After a tight opening in the third, where little separated the two tops seeds at 6-5 to Chu, the SAR player’s quality shone through and he romped to a 21-11 win – to take the match 2-1.
Chu also won a silver with partner Wong Chun-yim at a men’s doubles event. The pair lost in the SH6 doubles final 14-21 and 8-21 to their opponents, Lin Naili and Zeng Qingtao of China.
In table tennis, the men’s doubles pair Choy Hing-lam and Tong Chi-ming won a bronze medal in table tennis’ MD14 class. Their semi-final opponents, Liao Keli and Yan Shuo of China, proved too good and the SAR pair fell in three games, 8-11, 1-11, 8-11.
Meanwhile, Wong Chi-yin and Ho Ka-sing also won a bronze medal in the MD18 table tennis event. The pair lost the first two games 7-11 and 3-11 to Japanese players Koyo Iwabuchi and Hayuma Abe in the semi-finals, but bounced back to win the next two games 11-4 and 14-12. Wong and Ho lost 7-11 in the decisive fifth game, and settled for bronze.
In lawn bowls, Iron Tang and Chan Ka-man bagged a silver medal at a B3 class mixed pairs match. The duo lost to Song Jinqi and Kong Qiaoli of China, both of whom claimed gold at singles events at the games this year.
Rockey Li and Tang Shun-yee won the SAR’s seventh gold medal in lawn bowls. The duo defeated China’s Zhu Xiali and Feng Shugui 15-8 in the B2 mixed pairs final. Tang, 69, has become the oldest gold medallist at the Games this year.
And boccia athletes won two silver medals for Hong Kong. Leung Yuk-wing and Cheung Yuen played against China’s Lin Ximei and Zheng Yuansen at the BC4 mixed pairs final, and lost 1-3.
