Transitional housing projects going well: Winnie Ho

Housing Secretary Winnie Ho on Sunday said she is hopeful about the expansion of transitional housing projects, as her bureau held the second open day to introduce temporary homes in Mong Kok.

Ho said a total of 7,800 transitional housing units have been put into service, and another 6,000 will be provided by the end of this year.

She told reporters that the occupancy rate for such homes has been encouraging.

“The occupancy rate of transitional homes in urban areas has exceeded 90 percent, and the average occupancy rate in the New Territories is now over 87 percent,” she said.

“Some residents have already moved into public housing flats. We are very happy that transitional housing is being fully utilised.”

Asked about the issue of water leakage in a transitional home in Kam Tin, Ho said repairs for about 60 percent of the units have been completed, and that her team will closely follow up on the situation.

The housing minister added that an online platform will be launched on Monday to make it easier for people to apply for temporary accommodation.
