HK swimming team complete podium in freestyle relay

Hong Kong added another bronze to their medal count in the women’s 4×100 metres freestyle relay final on Sunday at the 19th Asian Games.

Camille Cheng started the race in fifth place, before Siobhan Haughey helped Hong Kong catch up. Karen Tam then put the team back in medal contention, with Stephanie Au finishing the race in 3 minutes 39.10 seconds.

Haughey said that her team worked extremely hard in the event, and that they were deserving of the bronze.

Meanwhile, Au, who has medalled in the past three Asian Games in this event, told HOY TV that each race still brings a unique experience.

“It’s hard to compare with my previous experiences, but this one is definitely the most meaningful since it is my last Asian Games. My team gave me the confidence to be the anchor. Even though I was overtaken, I have to focus on my own split and I think I swam really well. I am very happy that I completed this mission,” she said.

China topped the podium with a new Asian Games record of 3 minutes 33.96 seconds, while Japan took home the silver in 3 minutes 38.48 seconds.
