With the Mid-Autumn Festival fast approaching, Secretary for Justice Paul Lam Ting-kwok did not forget the orphans at Mother’s Choice.
Lam visited children at the NGO’s child care home in Mid-Levels together with volunteers from the Justice Department to make lanterns with the children, saying he was both heavy hearted and touched at the same time.
Putting his feelings in words on Facebook yesterday, Lam said he was deeply touched as he saw voluntary workers and staff members look after the children, accompany them and tuck them up in bed to create a family-like environment.
He conceded that it was not uncommon for children to be neglected, abused or abandoned in Hong Kong.
”We must always remind ourselves that there are lives behind the legal documents, and must do our utmost to uphold justice when handling these relevant cases,” Lam wrote.
